Matt Lewis - Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine: Founding a Dynasty - Wed 22nd July 6.30pm
In 1154, the English throne passed into the hands of a power couple who began a new dynasty. Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine established a dynasty that would rule for 331 years, the longest in English history. They became a European power couple unrivalled in their own time and with a towering legacy. Yet all was not well at home or abroad. Rebellious children, turbulent priests, and a King of France seeking their destruction meant Henry and Eleanor had little time or peace to enjoy their positions. Their lives are incredible stories, and Matt Lewis will explore the challenges and successes that define the birth of the Plantagenet dynasty.
Matt Lewis is an author and historian of the medieval period. He has written several non-fiction books covering the Wars of the Rosses, Richard III and the Princes in the Tower, as well as The Anarchy, Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine, and Henry III. Matt also appears as a contributor in other documentaries and is part of a project to bring an authentic medieval movie telling the story of Richard III to the big screen
